Gua Tempurung

The entrance
Gua Tempurung (Tempurung Cave) has existed since early 8000 B.C. and it is one of the larger cave systems found in the scenic limestone hills of Perak. Gua Tempurung is the largest limestone cave in Peninsular Malaysia stretches for 1.9 kilometres and is made up of five huge domes. Each dome has different formations of stalagmites and stalactites as well as differing temperatures, water levels, content of limestone and marble. The cave measures 1.9 km in length and 120 metres in height. The cave follows a direct course through a mountain range called Gunung Gajah-Tempurung, located south of Ipoh towards Gopeng and Kampar.

Inside the cave

Walkways have been built within some parts of the caves making it easy for visitors to have a leisurely stroll while taking in the sights of the beautiful underground waterfalls and the pendant stalactites hanging from the roof stalagmites.

The walkways

Each cave carries its own legends, and Gua Tempurung is no exception. Many believe the cave was used as a hideout for terrorists during World War II and the Emergency. It is said that Lee Meng, the notorious communist courier, once used the cave as a hideout. The fact that his name appears on one of the walls deep inside the cave certainly seems to support this story. Another story speaks of the cave being used by the Japanese as a prison during their occupation of Malaya. This is made more evident by the existence of a gate-like structure made of horizontal steel bars.

The cave window
It is a cavern inside Gunung Tempurung (Tempurung Mountain) standing 497 metres high and is about 250 million years old. Gua Tempurung is visible from the North-South Expressway near Gopeng. Inside the cave also has the small river. The river, Sungai Gua Tempurung runs about 1.6 km. It originates from the north and south outlets of a small catchment derived from the granite upland area to the east.

Sungai Gua Tempurung

Gua Tempurung is an interesting place to visit because it is an impressive cave with beautiful lime stone formations like stalagmites, stalactites, rim stone pools, curtains, straws, calcite crystals and pillars. There are also majestic columns of marble inside its huge cavern honeycombed with smaller caves of different dimensions. The cave holds mystery and intrigue that leave one curious about its deep, dark secrets dating back to 400 million years ago. For those who are interested in caving and adventurous activities, Gua Tempurung is one of the places that you should visit!!

Interesting stone formation

The cave is divided into several sections, with the lower cave passage called the Molesworth Allen Tunnel, named in honour of the botanists, Betty Molesworth Allen. At the end of this tunnel, the cave opens up to Alam Cavern, the largest of the three major caverns, this is more than 130 metres in width and towers 72 metres high.

Golden Flowstone
The Gergasi Cavern is the last of the cave sections. It is named Gergasi because it holds a huge column, which is some 15 metres in height and 17 metres in length. The column stands sentinel- like at the end of the chamber, like a giant genie guarding its treasure.

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park - "World's Largest Free-flight Walk-in Aviary"

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is located in the serene and scenic Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens. It is only 10 minutes’ drive away from the city centre of Kuala Lumpur. KL Bird Park is also reputed to be the largest walk-in free-flight aviary in the world.

KL Bird Park is the home to more than 3,000 birds of approximately 200 species of local and foreign birds. The park is approximately 20.9 acres of verdant valley terrain, the park is divided into 4 zones; Zone 1 and 2 make up the free-flight zone; Zone 3 is the Hornbill Park and Zone 4 is where the birds are placed in separate cages and mini aviaries.

One of KL Bird Park's most extraordinary feature is that in Zone 1, 2 and 3, birds are let free in the aviary in which closely resembles their natural habitat. With this free-flight concept, birds are able to breed naturally in this unique environment.

Activities and attractions:
Daily activities:

Bird watching.
Visitors will have an exciting experience of watching colourful and melodic birds perching and winging about freely while relaxing in a natural and beautifully landscaped surrounding. The main feature that distinguishes KL Bird Park from any other bird parks is the concept of free-flight.

Breeding programme.
KL Bird Park had actively begun its breeding programmes since the year 2002. Various species of birds, both local and foreign, had successfully being bred in the park under the programme, with some showing encouraging progress and improvement year after year.

One of the most prominent evidence that these birds have adapted so well to this environment is that they are already able to breed naturally. The availability of numerous suitable nesting sites; bountiful sources of fallen leaves, branches and twigs makes KL Bird Park a highly conducive environment for breeding. Therefore, this concept of free-flight not only provide the patrons of the park with an experience that closely resembles life in a tropical rainforest, but it is also perhaps the best way to ensure the survival and species continuity of these birds.

Photography.
Even if you’re not a fan of birds, with over 3000 different types of birds on display, you’ll definitely be fascinated by the interesting array of colours on display. Coupled with a well maintained park, the KL Bird Park is a good opportunity to capture some good photos.

The hornbill restaurant.
The restaurant is located within the Hornbill Park of KL Bird Park. The restaurant is unique because it is the distinctive yet subtle Malay Kampung House architecture of the restaurant. Other than being surrounded by towering green trees & breath-taking view of the Kuala Lumpur skyline, you might also be visited by our majestic Rhinoceros Hornbill and her other feathered friends while enjoying your meal at the restaurant’s protruding open veranda. Hornbill Restaurant & CafĂ© is the ideal venue to entertain family, friends and clients, be it for lunch, dinner, business meetings and small parties to wedding receptions.

LATA KINJANG WATERFALL, CHENDERIANG, PERAK

Hi, peeps...today we will blogging about natural site of Malaysia, which is, Lata Kinjang. It is one of Malaysia's highest waterfalls, cascading down a steep 200 meter-high stretch of rocky slopes and surfaces at Chenderiang. Located about 12km north of Tapah, the waterfall is highly visible along the North-South Highway due to its sheer size and height, easily impressing travelers to a quick detour at the nearest exit (Kampar). Lata Kinjang is not difficult to find, and it is connected by a quite good condition road from the Tapah town compared with other waterfall’s bumpy road. A small parking fee is charged for cars (normally active only on weekends and public holidays) at the recreational park below the falls. There also have a souvenir shops as travelers want to buy something as memorable thing.

Lata Kinjang ...
Fresh and cool
There is an interesting history about this place actually. Lata Kinjang is not only a good picnic spot but also famous of its legendary Malay character, Sang Kelembai who had lived with her child. Sang Kelembai was said to be a female giant with red hair and the villagers feared as her curse would turn anything into rock. The rocky terrain of Lata Kinjang was supposedly formed when she cursed the spot where her child was crushed by a tree. Spooky right??

How to go???

To reach here, head towards Tapah town and from there, follow the Chenderiang signboard to get to the waterfall. When on the trunk road to Ipoh, one can either take a right turn to Lata Kinjang on seeing a signboard for the waterfall or go straight until one sees a signboard that says "Temoh". Lata Kinjang is about 15km from Tapah town and about 60km from Ipoh. When one gets to Chenderiang town, turn left and then looks out for the signboard - "Lata Kinjang". Visitors will arrive at an Orang Asli settlement called Kampung Kinjang before reaching the waterfall.

OR

Take the Tapah Exit of North-South Expressway. Turn right to Tapah town at the first traffic light. The left way will leads you to Cameron Highlands. Before you come to Tapah town, there is a second traffic light and take another right turn. At this point, you are able to find Lata Kinjang road sign all the way until you reach the waterfall.
